20 songs with great clips, part 3, #10-#6

10. Where's Your Head At- Basement Jaxx

This is another one that you don't really want to watch late at night with the lights off, but you can't really look away either...

9.Weapon Of Choice- Fatboy Slim

This was actually a really hard one to place within the 20- mainly because all the rip offs of this just about drive me to tears. Anything looks pretty weak when placed next to a dancing Christopher Walken.

8. Everlong- Foo Fighters

It was hard to pick between this one and 'Learn To Fly'- but Everlong would be my favourite Foo song- so it won out. This is just fun and silly.

7. Strawberry Swing- Coldplay

I don't think that I can even begin to comprehend just how many hours went into creating this clip- the final result is pretty spectacular! This was also the clip that started (or re-ignited) stop-motion stuff so it did change the video clip landscape.

6. Eyes Wide Open- Gotye

Honestly, Gotye could have filled a good portion of this list. This one though stands out, not just because of the clip, but also the lyrics- this is a song that should be listened to properly and thought about.

20 songs with great clips, part two- #15-#11

15. Push It- Garbage

This was one of the first clips that saw that just creeped me out- but I liked it all the same. I would have first seen this on Rage at some strange hour of the morning. I think that watching Rage can be a rather formative experience at times.

14. I Wish That I Was Beautiful For You- Darren Hanlon

I feel fairly safe in saying that this song is not widely known- nor is Darren Hanlon. This clip is very, very sweet. I would describe Darren Hanlon's music as folk-ish pop, he writes well and his songs weave some wonderful tales that at times have this whimsical imagery.

13. Soon We'll Be Found- Sia

I just like the imagination behind this- It just works.

12. Body Movin'- Beastie Boys

There is something really fun about this clip, which parodies an Italian spy film. It's a bit outlandish and perhaps cartoon-ish which is a quality that is shared with various Foo Fighter clips, but more on that later...

11. Old Fitzroy- Dan Sultan

I think that this clip captures the sentiment of the song beautifully. It is simple, but sometimes simple is best.

20 songs with great clips part one- #20-#16

 Well here we go.

This list of 20 songs with great clips is in no way exhaustive, and quite honestly, it hasn't even turned out to be THE 20 greatest film clips of all time- I have intentionally not included a lot of those clips that are iconic. Looking over the entire list (yes, it has been thought through, thoroughly!), I am quite positive that you will find something new here, either a song or an artist that you haven't heard before or a clip you've never seen before now.

Essentially the following list is a collection of songs that for some reason or other I like and they all have slips that I could watch over and over again.

20. Something To Talk About- Badly Drawn Boy

This is a nice little tune and the video has a nice story that runs through it. This song comes from the soundtrack for About A Boy, and often I find that the clips of songs from films are annoying and more like a 3 minute ad. This however is well executed- the parts from the film aren't obtrusive and contribute nicely to the story.

19. Silent Sigh- Badly Drawn Boy

I guess that there are some really obvious reasons why this one is here! I really like that this continues the story from 'Something to Talk About', but it is a clip that can stand alone as well. As for the song itself- I never grow tired of that piano line!

18. Come Into my World- Kylie Minogue

Good concept. Pretty sure that I would watch this with the Bro and we would try to follow the 'first Kylie' for the entire trip- try it!

17. Frontier Psychiatrist- The Avalanches

This one is just strange. I saw this and just thought 'What?!?'.
The Avalanches- great Australian band.

16. Penny On The Train Track- Ben Kweller

This clip features Ben Kweller's Grandma. How cool is that!

Welcome to the new section of my blog!

This section is dedicated to all things music, hence the title, which is a reference to Nick Hornby's 'High Fidelity'. It came about from a friend who posted their top 20 music clips and now I am doing mine. These will be published here for you to view, comment and discuss.

After this I would love your suggestions on other lists that you like compiled then published by me, the only condition is that you also need to give me your list as well!

I hope that you might discover some new tunes, rediscover old ones or even maybe like some stuff you have previously hated!

A.
